Revell's
458 Italia has to be the most amazing new Ferrari kit I've seen since
Tamiya released it's Enzo in 2003. Every part is molded cleanly and fits
exactly where it's supposed to making for a very enjoyable build. On
top of this the detail is astounding down to a tiny chrome prancing
horse for the nose and a headliner insert for the interior which is
first in any kit I've seen. The only issues I had are the same issues
universal to all Revell of Germany Ferrari's which were tail lights
molded in clear instead of transparent red and the wheels which
unrealistically trap the brakes between the two wheel halves, an easy
enough problem to fix with a pin vise, hobby knife, and brass rod. I
modeled my 458 as a black body on a dual tone black/tan interior after
one I had seen on the Ferrari of Beverly Hills website and this came out
looking much better than my first plan electric green over black
scheme. I enjoyed this kit so much I purchased a few more intending to
build a fleet in different colors and possibly convert one to a 458
Challenge version.

Subject: Ferrari 360 Modena

I
bought my Revell 360 Modena at a swap meet several years ago. All of
the sprues were there, however the body had a thick layer of black paint
that needed to be stripped away before I could proceed. After a
overnight soaking in brake fluid, the old paint was scraped off, the
shell reprimed with Tamiya white primer, then sprayed with Tamiya
gunmetal spray lacquer since I really detest the garden variety Rosso
Corsa red Ferrari. The interior represents black leather which was
reproduced by an overall coat of Tamiya flat black. The brushed aluminum
interior accents are matte aluminum Bare Metal Foil. Many people tout
Tamiya's 360 as the best on the market, but even out of the box Revell of
Germany's offering easily keeps pace. In my opinion it's the best 360
on the market for those wishing to avoid the high price tag and
complexity of the Japanese kit. This build has captured a 2nd place
award at IPMS So. Cal 2010 and 2nd place ribbon at Modelfest 2012
(spring).

Subject: 2007 Corvette Coupe (Based on 2005 coupe kit)

Take
my word for it when I say I have ALOT of 6th generation Corvette kits
stashed away. After seeing a picture in a magazine showing the new
Atomic Orange body color for 2007 I had to build one of them in it. The
basic model is built box stock, however to properly represent a 2006 and
later model year the kit steering wheel needs to be swapped out for the
one that comes in the ZO6 kit. The body is painted Testors one shot
lacquer system "Firey Orange which looks close enough to the factory
color to me and cleared with several coats of Tamiya TS-13 clear. I
toyed with the idea of adding the body colored inserts in the interior,
but in the end I left it as a all black vinyl scheme. Note that my
engine is slightly incorrect as it still carries the LS2 badge on the
intake covers from the 2005 edition, this could easily be fixed by
printing your own decals or a steady hand and paint.

Subject: 2005 Corvette Convertible

The
only kit of a 2005 rag top to date is Revell's 2005 Wheels Of Fire snap
kit. I built mine pretty close to when the kit was released since from
it's debut I had fallen in love with the new body style. Being a snap
kit there are some concessions made such as simplified brakes and a lack
of mirror faces, however these were easy to fix utilizing parts from
the same company's 2005 coupe kit which are almost a drop in fit. The
color combo approximates "Magnetic Red" which despite the brightness of
the photos is actually a deeper metallic red with a black vinyl
interior. This build has taken several awards including two 1st place
plaques at the Cactus Classic 2005/2006, a 2nd at IPMS So. Cal 2010, and
a 3rd place ribbon at Modelfest 2012 (spring) as well as was
photographed by Scale Auto magazine at the NNL So. Cal 2010 and appears
in Contest Cars 2010.

I
had had Revell's Wheels Of Fire snap kit in my unbuilt kit pile for a
long time not knowing what to do with it until I finally settled on
using it as a painting experiment. Once I had the effect I wanted on the
body I basically winged the rest of the build adding pieces from my
junk parts box as I went. This method of building actually made the
project incredibly fun since I wasn't restricting myself to historical
or factory accuracy, a complete "my way on my time" build.
